A full view on the dynamics of an impurity coupled to two one-dimensional fermionic baths

We consider a model for the motion of an impurity interacting with two parallel, one-dimensional (bosonized) fermionic baths. The impurity is able to move along any of the baths, and to jump from one to the other. We provide a perturbative expression for the state evolution of the system when the impurity is injected in one of the baths, with a given wave packet. The nontrivial choice of the unperturbed dynamics makes the approximation formally infinite-order in the impurity-bath coupling, allowing us to reproduce the orthogonality catastrophe. We employ the result for the state evolution to observe the dynamics of the impurity and its effect on the baths, in particular in the case when the wave packet is Gaussian. We observe and characterize the propagation of the impurity along the baths and the hopping between them. We also analyze the dynamics of the bath density and momentum density (i.e. the particle current), and show that fits an intuitive semi-classical interpretation. We also quantify the correlation that is established between the baths by calculating the inter-bath, equal-time spatial correlation functions of both bath density and momentum, finding a complex pattern. We show that this pattern contains information on both the impurity motion and on the baths themselves, and that these can be unveiled by taking appropriate "slices" of the time evolution.Comment: 26 pages, 14 figure

Behind the definition of Industry 5.0: A systematic review of technologies, principles, components, and values

    Get PDF
This study addresses the emerging concept of Industry 5.0, which aims to tackle societal concerns associated with the ongoing digital industrial transformation. However, there is still a lack of consensus on the definition and scope of Industry 5.0, as well as limited understanding of its technological components, design principles, and intended values. To bridge these knowledge gaps, the study conducts a content-centric review of relevant literature and synthesizes evidence to develop an architectural design for Industry 5.0. The findings reveal that Industry 5.0 represents the future of industrial transformation, offering potential solutions to socio-economic and environmental issues that were inadequately addressed or exacerbated by Industry 4.0. The study provides managers, industrialists, and policymakers with a comprehensive overview of Industry 5.0, including its technological constituents, design principles, and smart components, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder involvement and integration for effective governance of digital industrial transformation within this framework

a conditional linear gaussian network to assess the impact of several agronomic settings on the quality of tuscan sangiovese grapes

Summary In this paper, a Conditional Linear Gaussian Network (CLGN) model is built for a two-year experiment on Tuscan Sangiovese grapes involving canopy management techniques (number of buds, defoliation and bunch thinning) and harvest time (technological and late harvest). We found that the impact of the considered treatments on the color of wine can be predicted still in the vegetative season of the grapevine; the best treatments to obtain wines with good structure are those with a low number of buds; the best treatments to obtain fresh wines suitable for young consumers are those with technological rather than late harvest, preferably with a high number of buds, and anyway with both defoliation and bunch thinning not performed

Resistance to Plasmopara viticola in a grapevine segregating population is associated with stilbenoid accumulation and with specific host transcriptional responses

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Downy mildew, caused by the oomycete <it>Plasmopara viticola</it>, is a serious disease in <it>Vitis </it><it>vinifera</it>, the most commonly cultivated grapevine species. Several wild <it>Vitis </it>species have instead been found to be resistant to this pathogen and have been used as a source to introgress resistance into a <it>V. vinifera </it>background. Stilbenoids represent the major phytoalexins in grapevine, and their toxicity is closely related to the specific compound. The aim of this study was to assess the resistance response to <it>P. viticola </it>of the Merzling Ă— Teroldego cross by profiling the stilbenoid content of the leaves of an entire population and the transcriptome of resistant and susceptible individuals following infection.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>A three-year analysis of the population's response to artificial inoculation showed that individuals were distributed in nine classes ranging from total resistance to total susceptibility. In addition, quantitative metabolite profiling of stilbenoids in the population, carried out using HPLC-DAD-MS, identified three distinct groups differing according to the concentrations present and the complexity of their profiles. The high producers were characterized by the presence of <it>trans</it>-resveratrol, <it>trans</it>-piceid, <it>trans</it>-pterostilbene and up to thirteen different viniferins, nine of them new in grapevine.</p> <p>Accumulation of these compounds is consistent with a resistant phenotype and suggests that they may contribute to the resistance response.</p> <p>A preliminary transcriptional study using cDNA-AFLP selected a set of genes modulated by the oomycete in a resistant genotype. The expression of this set of genes in resistant and susceptible genotypes of the progeny population was then assessed by comparative microarray analysis.</p> <p>A group of 57 genes was found to be exclusively modulated in the resistant genotype suggesting that they are involved in the grapevine-<it>P. viticola </it>incompatible interaction. Functional annotation of these transcripts revealed that they belong to the categories defense response, photosynthesis, primary and secondary metabolism, signal transduction and transport.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>This study reports the results of a combined metabolic and transcriptional profiling of a grapevine population segregating for resistance to <it>P. viticola</it>. Some resistant individuals were identified and further characterized at the molecular level. These results will be valuable to future grapevine breeding programs.</p

Seasonal pattern of vitamin D in male elite soccer players

The phopho-calcium metabolism and the maintenance of bone mass is not the only important role vitamin Dplays. Vitamin D is also known for its anti-inflammatory function and for modulating the immune defence system. The vitamin D deficit is to be referred not simply to a bone tissue worsening, but to cardiovascular diseases, various types of tumours and some autoimmune diseases. In the sport life, a vitamin D deficit is often related to muscular problems, neuromuscular pains, predisposition to injuries, and can affect one’s performance. Since indoor athletes have reduced exposition to sun rays, they are more likely to be subjected to these risks than outdoor athletes. However, in soccer, the athletes can experience vitamin D deficit not just during the winter but in other periods too, most likely due to several reasons such as, dark complexion, coming from high altitude championships, injuries, or inadequate exposition to sun rays during the summer. The purpose of this study was to examine the vitamin D shortage and BMC variations in Italian Serie A elite male soccer player
